Science in Dialogue: Call for open discussion forums

“Challenges of sustainable development: implications for the future of forests and forest science”

Following the success during the IUFRO 125 Anniversary conference we would like to receive proposals of open discussion forums to promote a dialogue with policy makers, stakeholders, the public,… – just tell us your ideas.

These forums could be also organized in Spanish to promote discussion with local stakeholders and policy makers.

Within these sessions that we will call  “Science in Dialogue” sessions, we are expecting to create a forum where conference participants will have the opportunity to discuss with leading representatives from different groups of society the following guiding questions:

  • What are the biggest concerns and most pressing challenges related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations (UN) in 2015 and the future of forests?

  • Are there synergies and trade-offs in implementing the SDGs from a forestry perspective?

  • What are the most important knowledge gaps and information requirements by policy makers, business and industry, and civil society groups?

  • Is there a mismatch between the knowledge delivered by education and the expertise and skills needed?

  • How can IUFRO support policy makers, business and industry, and civil society groups more effectively in addressing the forest-related SDGs? And which forms of collaborative action could be taken?

Looking forward to innovative proposals for hot sessions that open up dialogue of different parties.

Provide a Title, your idea in < 250 words, who you will invite, which sectors of society the session will be targeted, language (Spanish, English).
Also, provide full information of the proposal contact person (Name, institution or affiliation, address, e-mail)..

The deadline for an open discussion forum proposal submission is March 20, 2018. Please send your proposal by e-mail to and
